An organization composed of people from over 300 years in the future, after humanity was destroyed by a plague. They control massive mechanical monsters, attacking the people of Shibuya who were sent to their time. What is their goal…?
An organization of people from the future who fight the Revisions. They send agents all over the world to protect a future where humanity can survive. When the people of Shibuya are sent to the future, they offer them the String Puppets and encourage them to fight.
Officially the “Shibuya Defense Service”. Comprised of 5 people and led by Daisuke Dojima, they were formed to use the String Puppets to protect the city of Shibuya. Under the command of the Shibuya police.
During summer break in the year 2010, Daisuke was kidnapped from his grandfather’s house. Milo saved him, but his relationship with his friends Gai, Lu, Marimari, and Keisaku was forever changed. Daisuke believed Milo’s words that it would be his job to protect everyone, and trained every day so that he would be ready. But now that he’s in high school his relationship with them is only getting worse.
A private academy attended by Daisuke and his friends. Its elementary school and university are in a different place, but it’s high school and middle school are both located in central Shibuya, and it’s not unusual for students to first come to academy after spending their younger years elsewhere. The middle of the school is located right on the border of the area that was sent into the future, and for this reason the half that was transported was the first to be attacked by the civilians. The teacher’s office was in the part of the school that wasn’t transported, and so there are barely any teachers in 2388.
Frontline troops of the Revisions that attacked Shibuya. Their primary mission is to capture humans, and their bodies combine a bug-like shape with a bio-cage to hold their prey. Powerful, and the size of a bus, but also agile enough to pose a threat to even the string puppets.
Special agents who work for ABH. They perform a variety of activities all over the world to help fight the Revisions. Some of them, like Milo, are called Balancers. They use oversized handguns, wire guns, and vehicles that can travel through the wasteland at over 200km an hour. These are the ones who handle the missions that are most important to ABH. But what are those missions…?
A wearable anti-Revisions combat system developed by ABH. The people of Shibuya also call them Special Enhanced Combat Devices. These are the only weapons capable of fighting the Revisions. Incredibly mobile and capable of using a wide variety of heavy weaponry, and also capable of operating in extreme environments. Even within ABH, their existence is a secret, and only a few people know about them. Their controllers are called “Puppet Masters”, and for some reason each is registered with the neural map of Daisuke and his four friends.
A year more than 300 years in the future, where everyone in a 1km radius around Shibuya station was sent. Nothing remains from the year 2017; all that’s left is wasteland dotted with green and abandoned buildings. The temperature and humidity remain mostly the same, and the people from 2017 can function and breathe just fine, but...
A type of String Puppet mostly used by Daisuke. It has a unique white coloring. This String Puppet is intended for close range combat, and is equipped with an ERK (Explosive Recoil Katana) that uses an exploding blade to cause additional damage, as well as a special handgun equipped with 4 types of bullet: normal, guided, dispersing, and burst.
An emergency government established by Shibuya city hall and the Shibuya police to maintain order after the city was sent into the future. It works to restore infrastructure, supply food, keep the people safe, and respond to disasters. It was also what established the SDS (Shibuya Defense Service) to fight against the Revisions. The prime minister of the provisional government is Ward Mayor Muta.
A pilot suit that increases the synchronization between a Puppet Master and a String Puppet. Its sensors are directly linked to the Master’s sensory organs, faithfully connecting the Master and Puppet. Sensory information from the Puppet is fed back to the master, but pain signals are dampened by a limiter.
A worldwide pandemic involving the RV Virus that occurred after 2017. The scale of the disaster was far greater than anticipated, and resulted in the collapse of every nation-state on Earth. The pandemic was directly responsible for the world's eventual division between the Revisions and AHRV. In 2388, the year in which the story takes place, the RV virus has gone extinct in the natural world, and the pandemic has come to an end.
Another type of String Puppet prepared by AHRV. The ones with yellow coloration are for mid-range fighting, and use assault rifles. The red-colored ones are for long-range combat, and use heavy sniper rifles and missile pods mounted on both shoulders. Kai and Lu used them in the first battle.
A terminal used by the Revisions for negotiations. The revisions wanted the bodies that would be easy for the citizens of Shibuya to emphasize with. However, the appearances for these bodies were chosen based on data of 2017 that was over 300 years old at the time of their creation, and as a result they look like particularly hard-core cosplay outfits. These bodies were artificially created and lack any kind of biological functionality. Since they have no metabolism, a body only lasts a few days.
The first round of those to be sent back as part of the Shibuya Disaster Victims Return plan, which was established after Prime Minister Mita, acting on his own, agreed to Chiharu's condition that he turn over the three String Puppets. Keisaku, his mother Yoshie, and Mikio were among those chosen. The list was created by the Revisions, but what conditions they used to decide who would return are unknown.
An acronym for “Anti-Historical ReVisionism.” An organization which sends agents known as “Balancers”, whose quantum brains enable them to travel through time, to various eras in order to thwart the Revisions attempt to “revise” history by merely “adjusting” it instead. The idea of “adjusting” history may seem to go against their name, but these adjustments never greatly alter history's course, and are only intended to create a future where their “future forecasting” tells them that humanity survives.
A brain capable of recognizing and interacting with chaos orbits. These give their owners the unique ability to travel through time to orbital intersection points. All of AHRV's balancer agents possess quantum brains.
A model of space-time used by AHRV in the year 2388. This model treats all of time, from the beginning of the universe to the year 2388, as a single line. This line weaves and bends in complicated ways, and some points on the line even intersect. A balancer's brain is capable of understanding these intersecting points as two separate “present times” and can time travel from one era to another. Chaos orbits are in a constant state of gentle motion, and when an intersection ceases to exist it becomes impossible to return to the present time.
An area beneath the two-story connecting corridor that runs between Tokyu Department Store and Shibuya Mark City, used by the SDS as a base. It's located directly next to Shibuya Station, putting it almost in the dead center of the area affected by the disaster, and thus in a prime location to respond to wherever the SDS is needed. It also provides a safe place for Daisuke and the other Puppet Masters. The area is surrounded by a construction fence, and inside are the support cube for the String Puppets, as well as a maintenance hanger, weapon rack, living spaces for the Masters, etc.
The support cubes used by the String Puppets. It was assumed that the Puppets would not be operating in an ideal environment, and so these cubes are equipped with a wide variety of functions. Their primary function is to serve as a power source for the Puppets, and each contains enough energy to power the transported area of Shibuya for a full month. They can also regenerate parts for the puppets, or create ammunition.
The Revisions’ plan to save humanity. The goal of the plan is to replace the major cities of the world with the year 2388, and in doing so stop the RV virus pandemic from annihilating humanity. The first test case in the plan was Shibuya. The Revisions lack quantum brains, but they were able to create artificial versions from captured agents, enabling them to transport entire cities through time. AHRV was aware of the Revisions plan, but their future forecasting told them that it would fail and humanity would be wiped out.
